Our Answer to the MacArthur Genius Grant

I have gotten a ton of inquiries since I first posted about my alternative to the MacArthur Grant. Right now I’m working on a short document to explain what this project is, and this is the first draft. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

THE ISSUE: Unchallenged cultural hegemony of huge private arts foundations.

We are going to win, but only if: we stay true to a single idea—that culture really is upstream of politics. Therefore if we have any hope of saving civilization, we must reinvigorate the culture. 

It is art and culture that gives people a reason to believe—in themselves and in their country. 

The Left is billions of dollars and many decades ahead of us. Which is why we have to start today. There’s no time to lose!

THE SOLUTION: Create our own private foundation to nurture and reward creators shut out of this pipeline.

Recognize and Reward Talent

This will be the first-ever financial grant program for creators and artists on our side. Modeled after the famed MacArthur “Genius” Grant, the Saint Genesius Grant will be a no-strings-attached award to a small number of worthy creators each year. 

Named for Saint Genesius, an early Catholic martyr from the third century and the patron saint of actors and playwrights, the Genesius Grant will be an annual award to creators, writers, and artists on our side. 

It is the alternative we need to the MacArthur Genius Grant.

This crucial lifeline will allow them to complete projects that help save the culture—and our civilization.

GOALS:

Boost morale: Recognize and reward talent on our side.

Boost output: Provide financial support so they have space to complete projects. 

PROCESS: 

Nominations are received by the judging committee.

The judges use need, talent, and potential as the three core metrics to determine grant recipients.

Grant recipients are announced.

GRANTS:

The MacArthur Foundation’s Genius Grant is $800,000 per winner, distributed in equal sums over five years. There are no strings attached to the grant.

We will probably have to start somewhat slightly smaller. (Unless your great-grandfather just died and wants to endow the fellowship with his billions, in which case, call me). Obviously, my ultimate goal would be to provide a talented person with at least $100,000 that would basically allow them to take a year off their day job and focus on completing a large creative project.

We will award grants in three tiers initially, to help quickly flood the channels with much-needed support.

Grant tiers could be broken down into something like this:

• Bronze:   10 awards of approximately $10,000 each

• Silver:   3-5 awards of up to $25,000 each

• Gold:   1-2 awards of $50,000+ each

For example, in Year 1, we could award a total of $250,000: ten people get $10K, four get $25K, and one lucky genius gets $50K or more.

In Year 2, we could expand in either direction—either more awards, and/or higher amounts. The practical goal to work towards an amount that could enable a visionary writer or creator to take a year or so off work to complete a project, or to fund something like a movie or some other endeavor.

AND…..THE GENESIUS GUILD

Gathering the Team

Before you can storm the castle, you must gather the team. There is no community, forum, talent agency, or infrastructure that supports creators on our side, The Guild solves this. 

What it is: A free membership-based community and database of talented creators, and even a searchable talent pool. 

Grant winners and our allies who believe in this mission will form the basis of a new cultural infrastructure that must be built. They will be the scaffolding; the acorns, as

All Grant recipients will automatically be members of the Guild. Their ranks will grow every year, the way the Academy of Motion Pictures members does. Grant recipients could even become future Genesius judges.

The Guild will also serve as a proto-talent agency that allows us to discover, develop, and acquire original IP. We can use the Guild to attract and find talent for various internal projects. It will compete, for example, with The Blacklist in Hollywood.

Imagine having a robust database of writers, directors, artists, and other creatives who are ideologically uncorrupted by left wing politics. It will seed the donor networks and artistic networks and be a source of fellowship as we fight the war we find ourselves in.

With the first-ever robust network of creators, artists, and writers, we can make our own art and culture infrastructure. 

BACKGROUND

Literary, artistic, and entertainment startups are springing up, responding to a deep hunger for stories, ideas and creators not infected with progressive politics and not selected for success based on narrow and oppressive ideological rules. New streaming platforms, new publishing companies, indie movies, blogs, websites, and independent, self-published authors are attempting to beat back the tide.

But one of the heavy levers of cultural power the left wields is the use of very large cash grants, usually money endowed to giant foundations by long-dead American titans of industry: MacArthur, DuPont, Carnegie. I wrote a long post about the horrors the MacArthur Foundation has inflicted on this country.

• These foundations are now without exception proof of Conquest’s Second Law, and are doling out cash in large amounts to far-left progressive artists, writers, and scientists who strictly obey their ideological rules. 

• Everything these people create serves to further the goals of these far-left “non profit” organizations. In fact, they profit enormously by fully dominating 100% of American cultural capital—in film, books, fine art museums, architecture, and even science and innovation.

WHAT KINDS OF ART WILL GRANT WINNERS PRODUCE?

• Genesius Grant winners and Genesius Guild members will be able to make art that takes direct aim at the heart of the culture. It should not be overtly political or religious. Instead, the art Genesius Grant fellows make: 1) must be good, 2) must be true, and 3) must entertain, enlighten, or delight a wide audience.

It is artists and writers that have to lead the way forward—to cultural victory!
