This new Pope is very political in an American Progressive kind of way. It diminishes his role and the entire Catholic church. He focuses on going after Trump and ignores the tens of thousands of murders of Christians by the extremist Muslims that Trump goes after. Can a Pope be impeached? This one is asking for it.
The tete-a-tete with a democrat strategist followed by blatant attacks on Trump was not just dumb.
There are certain, special, sins that only a pope can commit, and there’s a special place in hell for the popes who have damaged the church. Not my pope!
Have they forgotten about David and Joshua? God used them as well as others to wage war and carry out battles. Pope's, Cardinals, and Preachers, are still all just humans.
I believe The Orthodox Church is growing as well. For the same reasons. I am feeling growingly optimistic about this “war”. Amazingly I think there WAS a plan and it has been executed. Bravo.
I was hoping the new pope, as an American, was going to be different from Francis and not lecture the world about the importance of being woke. (My wife and I were actually in Rome when it was announced that Leo was the new pope. The reaction of the crowd in St. Peter's Square was an exclaimed, "WTF, an American?!" We were at a trattoria where the owner, his wife, and their son, the sole waiter, were watching TV, shaking their heads in disapproval because they wanted an Italian pope.) But alas, Leo has been taken over by the European left - he will continue in the Francis mold.
Who will rid me of this troublesome pope, as some guy once said. (More or less) All the beefing about immigrants: when our grandparents, great-grandparents came here there was no limit on immigration, just as now. And they all came to work, (more or less) just as now. The only difference was that when they came they came through Immigration stations, and some bloke wrote down their names and tested them for TB and stuff. We shouldn't hate immigrants, but we should make sure of who they are, and where they intend to live and what they are able to work at. Laborare orare est, as some other bloke once said.
But it's a mutual interest. We like them to come and do the dirty work for low wages, but back in the Old Country they also did the dirty work, but the pay was a kick in the ass.
As for the homily on"white racism", I believe you, as our priest used that theme for the 4th Sunday of Lent..Google search on what we need to work on... I just sat there in disbelief. I'm still holding out some hope that our Shepard will trend more to our Catholic faith and its foundational tenets. Also that he remembers he's a faith leader, and not a political leader. However, if he wishes to lead by example, I'm sure we could fit quite a few migrants (legal and otherwise) wishing the Vatican walls.
As for traditional mass, I was in Asheville for a wedding last week, and saw a letter from the diocese on removing altar rails/kneelers and proper presentation of the Host. I wasn't there long enough to see if that diocese offers the Latin rite anywhere (here in Buffalo it's still available in a few parishes).
Peachy! Great reporting from the crest of the wave.
To borrow from the great Catholic William F. Buckley, ‘I’d rather take Spiritual Direction from the first 2,000 members of the Catholic Laity, then from the entire hierarchy of the Catholic Church.
Sadly, Collectivists gained a “Nation of Immigrants” foothold when Dingbat Marxist Emma Lazarus’ poem “The New Colossus” was affixed to the base of a breathtaking “Statue of Liberty”: “…From her beacon-hand glows world-wide welcome…”.
The He!! it does: Far from being an ad for “lots of free stuff”, The Statue’s name/title is “Liberty Enlightening the World” and faces outward. Collectivists have profaned it into their Iwo Jima Memorial.
Above all, you correctly observe that by honoring our boundaries and sovereignty it does not mean we hate the people outside, merely that we love the people inside.
And Leftists are certainly free to “Think globally and act locally” by adopting and paying for as many immigrants as they wish.
Thank you for the article. A few of my thoughts from specific parts of your article.
"The issue is that he also speaks out quite a bit about immigration. A lot. Specifically, a country’s right to enforce its own laws."
The church for decades has talked about undocumented workers and now economic migrants, I find such talk as dishonest as when pro-abortionist talk about the "right to choose." It blurs the distinctions needed for moral clarity.
"Nancy Pelosi, however, is still allowed to receive communion on her forked tongue."
Still laughing and love this line. Almost spit coffee on the computer screen.
"Meanwhile, you have lots of new Catholics pouring into the church. Conversions are way up. Young people are choosing faith. The Easter Vigil People are coming into the church DESPITE these liberal American cardinals, NOT because of them."
AMEN, AMEN!!! Converts are increasing because of what the church teaches in her dogma and doctrines, not the current talking points of many members of the magisterium.
"Pope Benedict understood this and liked it. He tried to help these communities by liberalizing the traditional Latin mass and favoring more traditional forms of catholic worship. The three bishops on 60 Minutes stand in stark opposition to this small organic movement."
Agreed. I do think that the Novus Ordo can be prayed with reverence and meaning. I do get tired of some TRADs acting like all Novus Ordo Masses are garbage. Many are, but not all.
"It’s a war between those who built successful Christian countries and churches and towns and armies and fought to protect their priceless glories—and enormous numbers of young men from the third world who are marching forth to seize it from them."
The threats to the WEST are Radical Islam, Cultural Marxism with all of its various masks, exaltation of materialism over faith/religion/spirituality. The last one, spirituality, is the most dubious of the three in my mind since many people cloak their personal pride in "my spirituality" rather than in a spirituality that draw them into religion & faith. My 2 cents.
"We have plenty of homegrown all-American losers and criminals and pedophiles. We don’t need to import them!"
AMEN, AMEN!!!
"By the way, I am praying for Pope Leo. You should too."
I do too, and not only when I am obligated to in the liturgy or Divine Office. Thanks for the great read!
Outstanding. It is a comfort that my salvation is NOT in the hands of the three noted Cardinals. Or of any man save The One.
I’m a cradle Catholic. We are used to these shenanigans. One just has to have an “eyes on the prize” mentality.
I dunno, maybe when you’re reared in it you don’t see some of the BS, kind of like kids who grow up with alcoholic parents.
Great concise report on these matters, Peachy. Right to the heart of things. Grateful for your reporting.
One mantra I’ve had for decades has been, “We should drop loads of people into Vatican City and see how open those welcoming arms are.”
I’m with you on the Vatican City idea. I’ve thought that for years as well. Such hypocrites they are !

Right on the money, PK.
A very fine piece.

I converted to RC from Episcopalian to escape woke from the pulpit. I love Latin, focus on the liturgy and extraordinary music.
My faith has deepened. I am grateful for the chance to grow closer to God.

Immigrants should be in OUR INTERESTS.
But it's a mutual interest. We like them to come and do the dirty work for low wages, but back in the Old Country they also did the dirty work, but the pay was a kick in the ass.

Ahhhh Peachisima! Excellent essay.
“Peachisima!”—LOL—love it !
She IS, though, right?
Absolutely! They invented the descriptive “isima” just for her !
Pope Pius V took the opposite immigration stand as Leo at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. The whole idea of a Vatican would be moot, if he hadn't.

Really appreciated reading your insightful comments. I had the same exact reaction as you over the Pelosi/forked tongue zinger.
